Premier Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni supplies the design and luxury trades globally. When they commissioned Phage to design their annual promotional calendar we recommended a design that would give their traditional printed calendar a new lease of life and relevance in the age of digital calendars and smartphones.
The result inspired Fedrigoni’s audience with ‘Ideas for the Year’ in the form of quick response (QR) codes. Like an advent calendar for the entire year, each week had its own card, linking through to an exclusive online portal, with ideas ranging from architectural walks to exclusive downloads and events and special contributions from paper artist Tracey Bush and illustrators Clive Lawrence and Aeriform.
By showcasing different stocks from Fedrigoni’s luxury range, the design promoted their product effectively to a design-aware audience, providing a means of engaging with them and maintaining interest beyond launch.
Phage also produced a short film documenting the entire project process, from initial creative through to printing and finishing, for the launch event in London.
The calendar won Best Desktop at the 2012 UK National Calendar Awards, while analytics showing click-throughs to the online portal demonstrate that the calendar was successful at maintaining interest and keeping Fedrigoni front of mind throughout the entire year. Sales of the product range used increased by 61% in the 11 months following launch, equating to a 63% margin increase.
